  • Bluefish Retail Launches Bluestore POS for iPad

Bluestore Live demonstrates a host of powerful features, integration with ecommerce tools and an attractive month-to-month subscription. To increase the flexibility of its use, Bluefish Retail have now developed a lightweight version of Bluestore Live for iPad.

Bluestore Live, a cloud-based Point of Sale (POS), today introduces its iPad app of the same name. Bluestore gives merchants the tools they need to grow their business: account management, inventory control, payment processing, and real-time data analysis. Extending functionality to the mobile sphere with the app, Bluestore for iPad will work both on and offline and is perfect for tradeshows and events, always maintaining real-time access to all critical business information at anytime, from anywhere. When a user creates a transaction using the iPad app, sales and stock information are synced to the cloud based admin console.

What makes Bluestore different from the other POS offerings out there is its hybrid approach. Making use of the cloud for all the necessary data storage–inventory, price lists, store information, tax classes, user and customer info, and more are all stored in an administrative console on Bluefish’s servers, accessible through an internet connection.  The terminal software, on the hand, is run locally, which means there’s no interruption to a store’s ability to sell if their internet connection goes down.  And because the terminal is Java based, it’s inherently platform independent.  You can run it on Windows (PC or Tablet), Mac, Linux and now iOS for iPad.

    Supporting Quotes:

"Bluestore has the feel of a highly practical approach to POS--it's modular and flexible and low cost--which on its own should make it attractive to small businesses."

    Merchant Maverick

"In short, Bluestore has provided our stores with all the functionality you would expect from a high-end POS provider; they deserve to stand shoulder to shoulder with much longer-established companies out there. "

Mike, Manchester & Harrogate Climbing Centre

"...we've been using Bluestore for over a year now. Having converted from an old Casio cash register, it has proved to be one of the best decisions we have made as a business. "

    Jonathan, The Market Garden Eynsham

  • Bluestore POS for iPad

After a great deal of development, Bluestore POS for iPad is now available for download from the app store.

We've kept the app free as we really see it as an extension to the functionality of your monthly Bluestore Live subscription. Perfect for tradeshows and events, this lighter weight version of Bluestore allows you to sell on the go whilst still maintaining the cumulative data in your main admin console.

If you've already got an enterprise up and running, you'll enter the same credentials as you use for your cloud-based admin console. You're then free to choose which store and you'd like to connect to and which terminal you want to use. It's a good idea to set up a specific terminal for your iPad so you can differentiate between sales in your transaction report.

If you don't have an existing enterprise then you can sign up for a free trial here https://www.bluefishretail.com/try-bluestore-live-for-free.html.

You'll receive login details to get started on the hardware in your store, and you can then use those same credentials to try out the iPad app.

We're keen to hear from existing and new customers , so let us know what you think!

  • New Release 1.16 For Bluestore POS

An update to Bluestore POS will be released on Monday 17th May between 4am and 5am GMT. The enterprise console will be unavailable for about an hour but POS terminals will continue to function normally.

In this release we've extended the ability to be able to create Suppliers on Bluestore Live. It is now possible to create suppliers in the same way you can create customers. Products can be assigned to one or more suppliers and each product / supplier has its own cost price history.

The product edit window has now been extended so that you can see the current inventory of that product across your estate. We've also added a 'reorder level' for each product which is used in the new Stock Reorder report.

There are two new reports in this version; the Stock Reorder report shows all products where the total inventory in the business has fallen below the reorder level. This can be exported to pdf or excel for use as the basis for supplier purchase orders.

The new Drawer Events report displays all events that have happened to the terminal drawer in store. This is a flexible report and can be used for instance to to show all incoming and outgoing cash, banking transactions, the card payments received or all paid ins / outs over a time period.

Here’s the full list of new features and enhancements:

    • Create Suppliers in Bluestore
    • Manage cost prices by product / supplier and record cost price history
    • Current inventory quantity visible directly in product edit window
    • Add a product reorder level for inventory
    • Stock reorder report
    • Drawer events report
    • Import/export cost prices
    • Added product search button to the terminal stock enquiry and stock by store
    • Reports exported to excel are formatted better
    • Other minor bug fixes and improvements

A couple of the items we are working on for the next release are the ability to scan product barcodes with embedded price / weight and the addition of Customer Not Present card payments for Yespay integrated chip and pin devices.

If you have any questions about the new release please get in touch by raising a support ticket or using the contact form.

  • Bluestore POS and Windows 8

Some customers running Windows 8 have recently been having intermittent problems with the Bluestore Point of Sale terminal not being able to connect to the cloud or to other terminals in the same store.

The issue appears to be related to the way with older versions of Java interact with Windows 8.

We recommend upgrading to the very latest version of the Java Runtime Environment (currently JRE version 1.7_u55), this seems to have resolved the problem.

Please note that if you use a 64-bit operating system on your till machine you should continue to use the 32-bit version of the JRE. The 64-bit JRE is only needed if you use the 64-bit version of internet explorer.

  • Heartbleed Update

An internet-wide bug called 'Heartbleed' was recently discovered which had the potential to affect many https websites using OpenSSL to generate their security certificates.

Bluestore Live was not affected as we use a different version of OpenSSL that did not contain the bug.

Our main website did, however, contain the bug and we have installed a patch to fix it. There is no evidence that any data breach occurred, however we do recommend changing your billing password to be certain that no-one can access your account. You can change your billing account password on your account details page https://www.bluefishretail.com/store/customer/account/index/

Please get in touch if you have any concerns.
